The plaintiff of Sirajganj journo Shimul murder case has demanded bail of the prime murder suspect be cancelled in a press meeting on Tuesday.
During the press meeting, Nurun Nahar Khatun, the victim's wife, said she fears that, with the bail granted to suspect Habibul Haque Miru on medical grounds, the safety of her children and herself is now at stake.
After daily newspaper Samakal's Sirajganj journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul was shot while on assignment on Feb 2, his wife Nurun Nahar filed a murder case where Shahjadpur municipality Mayor Halimul Haque Miru is the prime suspect.

After Miru received bail on medical grounds on Sunday, Nurun Nahar has demanded Miru's bail be cancelled and trial for the case begins as soon as possible.
Regarding the bail, Nurun Nahar said: “After his bail was granted, Miru told his followers he would help them get bail too. While he has legal right to get bail, how is his bail still in effect after he says such things?”

“Miru's bail worries me for the safety of my children and myself. I am posted in Bogra for my job and Miru is very influential across Sirajganj, Pabna and Bogra. This makes me feel very unsafe and helpless,” she said.
Nurun Nahar said: “Even after a month has passed, the charge sheet for this murder case is yet to be accepted by the court. If the charge sheet was accepted, Miru would not be a mayor any longer. He is being kept at a Dhaka hospital with the excuse of illness while he is using this opportunity to manipulate the situation in his favour.”
