A taskforce of the Health Ministry has fined Gazipur’s City Medical College Hospital Tk7.5 lakh for a wide range of medical and regulatory violations. The hospital is owned by former home minister MP Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir.
The raid which started on Monday afternoon, took place with the help of a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) team.
The raid team led by RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam.
Umme Salma Tanzia, joint secretary (hospital wing) of the Health Ministry, is a member of the taskforce and Lt Commander Abdullah Al Mamun, camp commander of Porabari RAB-1, assisted in the raid.

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Tanzia said: “This [the raid] can also be termed an inspection by the ministry. In the course of the raid, we found that the hospital hadn’t renewed its license since 2016.
“We also seized expired surgical instruments and medicines from the hospital.”
“RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam fined the hospital Tk7.5 lakh as the allegations of violations against the hospital were found to be true. The fine was realized right away.
The hospital authorities have been directed to renew their license by August 23,” she added.
According to sources, the lab that was being used to conduct Covid-19 tests at the City Medical College Hospital did not have the required approval of concerned authorities.
There are also various reports against the hospital of mismanagement and regulatory violations.
Another local hospital named Sheba Hospital was also fined Tk3.5 lakh for storing expired drugs. That hospital also paid the fine immediately.
