Mob beats brothers to death in Bandarban

At least two men in Ruma upazila, Bandarban, have died of injuries after allegedly being beaten up brutally by a mob in a village.

Police recovered the bodies of Thowai Ong Marma, 43, and his brother, Kyshathowai Marma, 48, from Hlaching Para village of the upazila on Wednesday around 5pm, said police.

According to local sources, a patrol team of Rapid Action Battalion-7 on January 24 destroyed a poppy field belonging to the two brothers.

Since the incident, the two siblings had been blaming local residents for the damage caused to their property and engaging in regular disputes with the villagers, sometimes threatening their safety.

However, on Wednesday, the altercation took a harsh turn when the brothers hacked a villager with a sharp weapon and an angry mob beat them to death on the spot, police confirmed.

"After learning about the incident we recovered the bodies on Thursday and sent them to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for autopsy," said OC Md Abdul Kashem of Ruma police station.
