A male nurse (brother) has died from Covid-19 infection at a Sylhet hospital, making him the first nurse to die from the new coronavirus in Bangladesh.
The deceased, Ruhul Amin, a nurse at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, died while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) unit of the same hospital around 10pm on Friday night, confirmed Brig Gen Md Yunusur Rahman, director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
He said: “Ruhul Amin was working as a nursing officer at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital. He himself became infected with coronavirus while serving patients. He died as the first brother (nurse) in Bangladesh after being infected with coronavirus while on duty.”
Earlier, the district recorded the first death of a physician from Covid-19 in the country. Dr Moyeen Uddin was an assistant professor at the medicine department of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
