Two killed in Sylhet tank lorry explosion

At least two people were killed and one other injured in a tank lorry explosion at a workshop in Sylhet.

The incident took place in Dakshin Surma upazila early Friday.

The deceased were identified as driver Monir Uddin, 50, and workshop owner Komor Uddin ,35, said Iftekhar Hossain Raihan Chowdhury, Alompur Fire Service and Civil Defence station Officer.

The explosion might have taken place due to a short circuit while the tank lorry was being repaired, said Iftekhar Hossain. " There was no oil inside the lorry."

“After being informed, we rushed to the scene and doused the fire. We recovered the dead bodies and one injured man from the spot,” added Iftekhar.

Injured Kawsar said the tank lorry of Padma Oil Company Ltd was brought to Maa Engineering workshop in Kuchai, for welding.

Suddenly, there was an explosion while Monir and Komor were working inside the lorry and he was in the vehicle, added Kawsar, who is currently undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

The bodies were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said Akhtar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Moglabazar police station under Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP).
