Brick kiln worker dies of coronavirus in Mymensingh

A labourer of a brick kiln died of coronavirus while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of SK Hospital in the town on Thursday afternoon.

The 55-year old man from Kaisapur village in Fulpur upazila is the first coronavirus victim of the district, reports UNB.

Civil Surgeon Dr ABM Mosiul Alam said the man died at the ICU of SK Hospital at 4:30pm.

He was admitted to the hospital on April 11 as he tested positive on the day and was shifted to the isolation unit two days later, he added.

As his breathing complications intensified on Monday he was taken to the  ICU where he died, said Dr Mosiul.

The Civil Surgeon also said that another eight persons tested positive for coronavirus at Microbiology Department’s laboratory of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) on Thursday.

The total number of coronavirus cases here is now 16, he said.

According to MMCH sources, three of the newly infected patients are from Goforgaon upazila, four from Ishwarganj and one from Sadar upazila.

Bangladesh has so far confirmed 1,572 coronavirus cases and 60 deaths from the highly contagious virus as of Thursday.

Among those, the country confirmed a record number of 341 positive cases and ten deaths from the virus in only 24 hours in as of Thursday.

Meanwhile, the global death tolls from the highly infectious disease reached 136,032 on Thursday afternoon.
