Rangamati upazila administration has put 10 families in Baghaichhari upazila under lockdown on Saturday.
According to locals, a government official—suffering from cold and cough—returned to his home in Ward 2 of Muslim Block on March 22. He wandered the area rather than remaining in home-quarantine.
The man was suffering from severe throat pain, cough, breathing problem, stomach ache, and fever from Friday.
Made aware of the matter, some locals went to his home and requested him not to go outside his house.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ahsan Habib Jitu ordered his neighbouring families of the Muslim Block, including the ill person, to remain under lockdown to prevent the spread of the virus around 11.30am on Saturday.
Their houses were marked with red flags and Ansar members were deployed in the area for surveilance.
The UNO said the upazila administration will look after the needs of the quarantined families.
The administration will collect blood samples and send it for testing at Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases in Foujdarhat, added UNO Ahsan.
