Man kills brother: A mentally challenged man killed his brother on Tuesday in Sadar upazila, Natore. The suspect, Shahjahan, came to the Sadar police station after the murder to confess to his crimes. Both the brothers were mentally challenged, said OC Jalal Uddin. Over an unknown dispute, Shahjahan hacked his brother Faruq to death in a local shop on Tuesday evening, and he was produced in court on Wednesday, said investigation officer Mostafa.

Idols vandalised in Nilphamari: At least three Durga and Kali idols in two temples of Saidpur upazila's Sonakhuli village were vandalized on Tuesday by some unidentified miscreants, said Additional Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Pal after inspecting the crime scenes. "The incidents are suspicious and can stem from internal rivalries. We are investigating the matter with utmost sincerity," said Ashok Kumar. Police have launched drives to arrest the perpetrators, said Saidpur police OC Abul Hasnat Khan.

9 injured in gas cylinder blast in Tangail, Bogra: At least nine people sustained burn injuries in separate cylinder blasts in two districts. In Bogra, five people sustained injuries while seven goats were killed when a balloon seller's gas cylinder exploded in Dhunat on Tuesday, said Chilimpur police outpost SI Abdul Aziz. In Tangail, four people were injured after two cylinders exploded at a tea stall, said Bhuiyanpur Fire Service official Ekabbar Hossain.

Principal confines schoolboy for three hours: A fourth grader has fallen ill after his principal in a cruel form of punishment confined him in an almirah for three hours Tuesday in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat. Locals got infuriated after knowing of the incident and staged protests demanding punishment of the teacher. The locals locked the school yesterday. A probe committee has been formed and the acting principal has been show-caused, said Associate Primary Education Officer Bulbul Ahmed.

Contraband cigarettes, gold seized at Ctg airport: Customs Intelligence in cooperation with a vigilance team of National Security Intelligence (NSI) recovered 240 cartons of contraband cigarettes and two gold bars at Shah Amanat International Airport, Chittagong on Wednesday. Airport sources said passenger Morshed Alam, a resident of Hathazari upazila, landed at Shah Amanat International Airport from Abu Dhabi by an Air Arabia flight with the cigarettes and gold bars around 10:50 pm. Assistant Commissioner of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Mohammad Readul Islam confirmed the incident.

Five held for Sonali Bank burglary attempt: Police detained five people from Hili border area of Dinajpur early on Wednesday over a burglary attempt at a local branch of Sonali Bank. The detainees are Ashiq, 24, Manik, 32, Al Amin, 25, Borhan Uddin, 27, and Rana, 23. Hakimpur police station OC Abdur Razzaq said a gang of miscreants tried to break into Sonali Bank's Hili Land Port branch early Tuesday. All the detainees were sent to Dinajpur jail on Wednesday morning following a court order.
