Quader: Finish repairing roads, highways a week before Eid

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has directed authorities concerned to complete the repairs of roads and highways damaged by flood at least a week before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated on August 12, subject to the appearance of the moon.

Quader gave the instruction at an urgent meeting at the ministry on Tuesday, said a press release issued by the ministry, reports UNB.

The ongoing floods has damaged roads and highways in a number of districts across the country and interrupted road communications, causing immense suffering to millions of people. 

According to emergency operation centre of the Department of Disaster Management, a total of 4,968 kilometres of roads have largely been damaged in 18 districts across the country as of July 22.

The roads particularly in Kurigram, Gaibandha and Sunamganj have borne the brunt of flood.
