Rape suspect killed in ‘gunfight’ with RAB in Chittagong

A young man accused of raping a seventh grader was killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the Amirabad area of Chittagong’s Sitakunda upazila on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as 20-year-old Rana.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB-7 team went to Amirabad to arrest Rana on early Thursday, according to RAB-7 Media Officer and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mashqur Rahman, reports UNB.

However, the suspect opened fire on the RAB team when it arrived, triggering a skirmish in which he was shot and killed. Rana’s body has been sent to a local hospital for autopsy.

A firearm and 11 bullets were recovered from the location after the gunfight.

Rana is accused of raping a seventh grader on February 3. He reportedly lured the girl to an abandoned house with promises of pickles. A case was filed regarding the matter.
