Institute for Environment and Development (IED) has awarded, Indigenous Affairs Journalist Award 2019, to two of the Dhaka Tribune journalists for their reports concerning the communities of ethnic minority in Bangladesh.
IED awarded honorarium, crest and certificate to a total of twelve journalists including Dhaka Tribune correspondents Halim Al Raji of Hili and Md Saiful Islam of Moulvibazar at a ceremony held at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro (BSK) in Dhaka’s Bangla Motor on Thursday.
The jury of IED selected twelve reports to be awarded which were published in print and electronic media between August 2018 and April 2019.
Halim was awarded for his report "Flatland Small ethnic groups losing language, culture due to lack of textbooks" published on February 18, 2019, and Saiful was awarded for "Indigenous languages on brink of extinction in Sylhet," published on February 23, 2019.
