Apparel traders in Meherpur Sadar have expressed their frustration over poor sales of goods ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Garment shop owners fear of incurring losses due to a low turnout of customers as they have invested a large sum of money targeting the Eid market.
Shop owners said that as their customers in the villages suffered losses in crop cultivation and the prices of the apparels are a bit higher this time sales are not up to the mark.
During visits to the shops of Sadar upazila, this correspondent found alluring collections of apparel displayed in the shops with few shoppers to buy them.
Barsha Fashion owner, Yajul Amin said: "This year's Eid market offers little sale unlike previous year. We spent lakhs of taka to boost our supplies but we are now fearing loss."
Golam mostafa, owner of a store, Meherpur Garments, said: "Most of our customers are villagers. Many of them are not shopping this Eid as they could not make enough profits from crop cultivation.
Similar sentiments were shared by owners of Alif Fashion and Zero Figure Garments.
Shops in the upazila showcase attires for women up to Tk5,000, whereas men's clothes on display do not exceed Tk3,000.
