Five Bangladesh Chhatra League members at Jahangirnagar University were suspended by the university authorities after they were accused of mugging people on campus.
According to Proctor Firoz-Ul-Hasan, Sanjay Ghosh from the 44th batch of Drama and Dramatics, Al Raji from the 45th batch of Government and Politics, Raihan Patwary from the 45th batch of Geological Sciences, Mokarram Shiblu from the 45th batch of Philosophy, and Shah Mustaque Saikat from the 45th batch of Computer Science and Engineering, were the suspended students.
On Saturday morning, the five Chhatra League students mugged Monir Hossain, son-in-law of the driver to the university’s pro-VC, Prof Nurul Alam, and tortured him on campus, demanding a Tk1 lakh ransom from his wife. University employees came upon the scene, rescued Monir, and detained the attackers.
On Sunday evening, the university’s disciplinary board convened and decided to suspend the five students. A four-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident and submit a report within seven working days.
