Prominent singer Khurshid Alam, 75, was injured early saturday, when a truck collided head-on with his private car on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in the Jhopgari area at Bogra’s Charmatha.
Two other people were also injured, in the incident that took place a little after 3am, said his brother Murshid Alam.
He said the Ekushey Padak winning singer was returning to his hotel after attending a program in the district town when a Dhaka-bound truck crashed into the car.
Khurshid was admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) following the accident.
He was shifted, to the Green Life Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka’s Green Road, via air ambulance, later in the afternoon, for better treatment, said the hospital’s Neuro Medicine Department chief, Dr. Asafuddoula.
Dr. Sushanto Kumar of the same department, told reporters that, Khurshid’s had five teeth broken, and he also received injuries on his face and head in the accident.
“His cut on the head was stitched, and none of the injuries he received are life threatening,” added the physician.
The two others, injured in the accident, were identified as Khokan and Swadhin. But police are yet to find out where they received medical treatment.
Bogra Sadar circle’s Additional Superintendent of Police, Sanatan Chakrabarty, said they impounded the wrecked car, but the truck and its driver were not yet located.
No case was filed over the incident yet.
Khurshid Alam was conferred, the Ekushey Padak in 2018 ,and the Lifetime Achievement Award, at the 12th Channel i Music Awards in 2017, for his contributions to the country’s music industry.
