A suspected yaba trader has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two groups of drug traders at Satghoria Para, Howaikang union, in Teknaf upazila.
The incident occurred around 4:30am on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Abdur Rahman, 23, son of the late Shah Alam, a resident of Moheshkhaliapata in Howaikang union.
Teknaf Model police station officer-in-charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das confirmed the matter.
He told the Dhaka Tribune: “When a team of police reached the spot, upon hearing about the ‘gunfight,’ the two groups of yaba traders fled from the area.”
The police rescued Abdur Rahman in an injured state and took him to the upazila hospital.
The drug trader died on the way to Cox’s Bazar while he was being transported—after receiving primary treatment at the upazila hospital—to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.
The police also found: 3,000 yaba tablets, a locally-made weapon, 3 rounds of cartridges, and 6 rounds of bullet casings on the spot.
Notably, there were multiple cases, including for yaba trade, against Abdur Rahman.
