Gunshot wounds on Biman hijacker Palash’s abdomen, back

Police in Chittagong have completed the inquest of the body of Md Palash Ahmed, who was killed in a confrontation with security forces during a raid to free a Biman Bangladesh Airlines plane that he hijacked.

There were gunshot wounds on his abdomen and back, Patenga police station Sub-Inspector Suman Dey told the Bangla Tribune on Monday.

He said police think a security forces bullet went through Palash’s body, leaving the wounds. Palash was wearing a black t-shirt and trouser.

The police official also said that Palash’s body was kept in a hospital morgue. “But no one has come forward to identify the body yet.”

On Sunday evening, Palash had managed to hijack Biman’s Dubai-bound Flight BG-147 mid-air, after it took off from Dhaka and forced the pilot to land at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.

He did not harm any passengers or crew members, but had demanded to talk to the prime minister and his wife. However, Palash was killed in a confrontation with security forces during their raid.

No other casualties took place during the one-and-a-half-hour crisis.

On Monday morning, Rapid Action Battalion confirmed that a fingerprint search of the suspected hijacker in their criminal database matched with Palash, of Narayanganj’s Sonargaon area.
