Paturia-Daulatdia ferry service resumes after 2.5hr suspension

Paturia-Daulatdia ferry service on the Padma river has resumed after being suspended for 2.5 hours due to dense fog.

The service recommenced around 9:30am on Saturday while it had been previously halted since 7am on the same day to prevent any untoward accidents.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Paturia ghat Manager (business) Mohammad Salahuddin Hossain confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

He said the density of fog kept intensifying, prompting the authorities to cease the ferry services. However, the service restarted now that visibility is better.

Earlier, around six ferries were stuck mid-river, and six others ferries, laden with a good number of vehicles, were kept anchored in Paturia ghat, with five ferries anchoring in Daulatdia ghat.

He further said more than 150 vehicles had been waiting to cross the river at Paturia due to the suspension of ferry service in one of the busiest ferry routes of Bangladesh.

Considering the suffering of the passengers, buses, private cars, and emergency good laden trucks were being traversed across the river on a priority basis, the manger added.
