10 injured in AL-cop clash in Lakshmipur

At least ten people including four cops and one journalist were injured in a clash between Jubo League men and police personnel at the Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital on Wednesday morning.

According to police sources, one Delwar of the Athiatali village in the Laharkandi union under the Sadar upazila secured bail on Tuesday from the Lakshmipur jail in an attempt to murder case of local Awami League leader Abdur Rahman Fazlu.

On Wednesday morning, he attacked Fazlu with a knife leaving him injured. 

The local Awami League and Jubo League men beat Delwar up in this connection, leaving him critically injured and handed him over to the police.

Later, the police admitted injured Fazlu and Delwar to the Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital.

At one stage, a group of Jubo League men of the Sadar upazila town reached the hospital and tried to attack Delwar.

They locked themselves in a clash with the police when the latter protested the attack.

Ten people, including four policemen and a local journalist got injured in the clash, said Lakshmipur Superintendent of Police ASM Mahtab Uddin.

The police arrested 12 Jubo League leaders and seized ten motorcycles from the spot, he added.

The injured were admitted to the hospital.

It should be mentioned Delwar had been serving a jail sentence since April, 2017, over the case.
