Shaktiman Chakma murder suspect held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a suspected terrorist from Ichhapur Foyzia Bazar of Hathazari upazila on Friday.

The arrestee has been identified as Kali Shangkar Chakma, 29, son of Sumoti Ranjan Chakma of Rangamati district, reports UNB.

Kali Shangkar Chakma is suspected to be involved with the murder of Naniarchar upazila chairman Shaktiman Chakma.

Assistant Director (media) of RAB 7 Md Mashkur Rahman has confirmed the incident, reports UNB.

He said: “Responding to a tip-off, we set up a checkpost on the Rangamati-Chittagong road. The suspect was in a CNG. We recovered a gun and five bullets from the scene.”

Shangkar, during initial interrogation, has confessed tohis involvement in the killing of upazila Chairman Shaktiman Chakma.

On May 3, Advocate Shaktiman Chakma, 55, also a leader of Parbatya Chittagong Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction), was shot dead in front of the upazila parishad complex.
