BSF returns body of Bangladeshi

Indian Border Security forces (BSF) has returned the body of a local they reportedly killed in Thakurgaon.

The body was returned to Baliadangi police on Sunday evening, after a company commander flag meeting took place between Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and BSF. The meeting was held at the no man's land between Kantibhita, of Bangladesh, and India's Hatkhola Border Observation Post (BOP).

BGB Pari BOP Campany Commander Subedar Salam and BSF’s ACGL Verma led the meeting.

BGB 50 Commanding Officer Lt Col Tuhin Md Masud confirmed the news Monday morning.

Baliadangi police station OC Sajedul Islam said the deceased’s body was handed over to his family.

Earlier, on Saturday, at a flag meeting between Lt Col Tuhin and BSF 171 Battalion Commandant Rakesh Sinha, BSF claimed a group of cattle-traders attacked  them.

“However, the BGB protested, questioning how an unarmed group could attack armed forces,” Lt Col Tuhin said.

BGB said firing on unarmed Bangladeshi people not only violates international norms, but also has adverse effects on Bangladesh-India harmony.

Md Rabbani, 25  – son of Pashiruddin Pashir from Horinmari village – was shot dead at the Kantibhita border, under Baliadangi upazila, around 4am on Saturday.

According to locals, Hatkhola camp BSF members opened fire on a group of cattle traders going to India, leaving Rabbani dead.
