Airport road accident: Diya, Rajib's families get Tk5 lakh each

As per a High Court (HC) order, the owner of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan has paid Tk5 lakh to each of the families of two students who were killed in a road accident, on Dhaka's Airport Road, on July 29.

The lawyer of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan’s owner confirmed the matter to the High Court bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Khairul Alam through an affidavit, reports UNB.

The victims' lawyer, Ruhul Quddus Kajal, said the hearing over the issue will be held after 2pm on Sunday.

An HC order, on July 30, directed Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan to pay Tk5 lakh to each of the grieving families of the two victims – Abdul Karim Rajib and Diya Khanam Mim – who were both students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment School and College.Rajib and Diya were killed when a speeding Jabal-e-Noor bus ploughed into a crowd of students who were waiting for transportation.

The Supreme Court upheld the HC’s order, on Thursday.

The court also ordered the bus owner to bear the medical expenses of the nine students injured in the July 29 incident—within seven days of paying the money.
