Sirajganj Jubo League leader hacked to death

A Jubo League leader has been hacked to death in Sirajganj municipality town.

Golam Mostofa, alias Boma Mostofa, 45, was reportedly hacked to death by local BNP and Jubo Dal activists that wanted to establish their political dominance in Ranigram village of Sirajganj town. The incident occurred around 9am on Wednesday.

Mostofa hailed from Madhyapara of Ranigram village. He was the acting Jubo League president of ward no 7 in the municipality town.

The body has been sent to a hospital for an autopsy—while a case is being prepared against the culprits.

However, police are yet to arrest any of the culprits.

Inspector of Sadar police station Md Rafiqul Islam said: "Golam Mostofa was sitting in front of a bazar in Ranigram on Wednesday morning, when miscreants hacked him up from behind, and left.

"After locals rescued him and admitted him to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital, the duty doctors declared him dead," Rafiqul said. "Later, police sent his body to the morgue for an autopsy."

Mostofa was killed because of an on-going conflict between the two factions trying to assert their political dominance in that area, the inspector said. Police are attempting to arrest the murderers.

General Secretary of district Jubo Dal Mirza Babu said, Mostofa was killed due to internal conflicts, but the blame is being put on Jubo Dal. "However, if police find any Jubo Dal members affiliated with the murder, the organization will not take responsibility for them."
