Road accidents kill four across Bangladesh

At least four people have been killed in separate road accidents in the Comilla, Khulna, and Narail districts—on Thursday.

In Narail, a motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision with a bus on the Narail-Khulna Highway around 11:30am.

The deceased –Akash Molla – son of Yunus Molla from Raghunathpur village under Purulia union of Kalia upazila, was a mobile phone trader—reports Dhaka Tribune's correspondent Saiful Islam Tuhin.

According to eyewitnesses, a motorbike and a Khulna-bound bus named Kalna Express collided on the main road near the Sheikh Russel Bridge. The two-wheeler had been travelling from Narail city.  

The bus lost control when its tires were punctured and it skidded off the road, into a ditch. Locals rescued Akash and took him to Narail Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead on arrival. 

In Comilla, the driver of a Chittagong-bound, poultry-laden, covered van was killed on the spot after a truck rammed his vehicle from behind. This occurred in Korpai area of Burichang upazila around 7:30am, reports UNB.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mainamati Highway police station Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the matter.

The victim has been identified as Abu Selim, a resident of Bharera village of the upazila.

Meanwhile, an unidentified man was killed in a road accident at Kalakachua in Burichang upazila in the early hours of Thursday.

In Khulna, a aged man died in hospital after he was injured in a road accident in Paikgaccha upazila.

Paikgaccha police station OC Aminul Islam said 70-year-old Makbul Hossain was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road, around 9pm, on Wednesday.

Later, he was taken to the hospital where  he succumbed to his injuries around 9:30am on Thursday,
