A government probe committee arrived in Natore yesterday to begin investigating the road accident that killed 15 people and injured 14 others in Kadimchilan area of Lalpurupazila on Saturday.
The six-member committee, led by Additional Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division Shafiqul Islam, first inspected the site of the accident and talked with different witnesses.
“The district commission has continued providing full cooperation to the committee to help them investigate,” Shahina Khatun, deputy commissioner of Natore, said.
“I hope the committee members will ask for safer roads, as well as ensure justice for the perpetrators.”
The other members of the committee are: Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Director (operation) Shitangshu Shekhar Biswas; Police Superintendent of Gazipur highway police Shafiqul Islam; Associate Prof of Buet, Kazi Md SifanNewaz; General Secretary of NirapadSarak Chai (We Demand Safe Roads), SM Azad Hossain; and Head of News of Baishakhi TV, Ashok Chowdhury.
Police have filed a case against seven people, including the owners and drivers of the two vehicles involved in the crash.
