Mosharraf: Gas price hike to devastate people’s lives

BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has scathed the recent government’s decision to increase the gas prices in two phases saying it would make people’s lives more troublesome. The former BNP lawmaker has made the announcement at the annual sports and cultural programme of Comilla’s Gouripur Bilkis Mosharraf Girls’ High School. He alleged that the power-craving government has been taking irrational measures to increase revenue by looting people’s pocket. The gas price hike would be like slaying the slain for the people of our country who have already been living a measurable life, the senior BNP leader said. The government had proven its callousness about people as it was not the government of the people, Mosharraf added. He urged the people to boycott such irrational and decision of the government which clearly goes against the public interest. He also prayed for the departed souls who died in the BDR mutiny in 2009 and asked for condign punishment of the real culprits. “There is no sign of democracy exists in the country right now. A horrific situation has been prevailing all around.” “People will not vote for Awami League if a free and fair election is held at this moment, which is why they fear a fair election.” So the demand for an impartial interim government during election has become a public demand, said the veteran politician.
