A suspected drug peddler was killed in a so-called gunfight with a joint team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The incident occurred at Kaptanbazar Gumti Beribadh area under Sadar upazila in the early hours of Saturday.
According to RAB sources, a joint team of RAB of BGB personnel conducted a raid in the Kaptanbazar area to detain a listed drug named peddler Sahidul Islma Sabu. Sensing the presence of the raid team, the suspects began firing on them.
RAB retaliated, triggering a gunfight. Later, critically injured Sabu was found at the scene. He was taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where the on-duty doctors declared him dead on arrival, said sources.
Sabu hailed from Ekbalia Village of the district, and was accused in 27 cases in different police stations.
The raid team seized bottles of phensedyl and marijuana from the spot. The body has been sent to CMCH for autopsy.
