The Bangabandhu Bridge experienced a massive gridlock following two accidents on Wednesday morning.
Around 6:30am, two vehicles laden with goods from Dhaka collided with each other near pillar No 13 on the north lane of the bridge.
As a result, the portable barrier between the two lanes shifted to the south side, which halted vehicular movement on both sides of the bridge for hours.
The situation improved around 8:45am, Bangladesh Bridge Authority Traffic Control Manager Lt Commander (retd) Mahfuzur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.
On the other hand, an accident on the Dhaka-Tangail highway resulted in a gridlock on the eastern side of the highway near the Bangabandhu bridge.
Four people died in the head-on collision between a Dhaka-bound truck and pick-up van in the morning, Sub-Inspector of East Bridge police station Kamal Hossain said.
Around 9am, Officer In-charge of Bangabandhu bridge West Police station Syed Shahid Alim said: "The situation is under control now."
