3 workers die in septic tanks in Khagrachhari and Jashore

Three workers have died inside septic tanks in two separate incidents in Khagrachhari and Jashore.

The incidents took place on Sunday. Two workers died in Khagrachhari while in Jashore, one died and another was left critically injured.

The deceased are Rafiqul Islam (17) and Ramjan Ali (21) from Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari and Emon (22) from Sharsha upazila of Jashore. The injured Biplap (25) was rescued and sent to the hospital.

The workers in Khagrachhari died of poisoning. They went inside the tank and were inside for a long while.

Worried, other workers broke the wall of the tank and pulled them out. They were both in critical condition when they were taken to the Khagrachari District Sadar Hospital where they were then declared dead.

The resident doctor at Khagrachari District Sadar Hospital Nayanmoy Tripura said: “It is possible that they died from lack of oxygen and poisoning inside the tank.”

In Jashore, four people went into a septic tank to do maintenance work when they started to suffocate. The locals rescued them and sent them to Buruj Bagan Health Centre.

Dr Roni from the health centre said: “Emon had died even before he was brought to the hospital. The injured Biplap is in critical condition.”

Sharsha police station acting Officer-in-Charge Tasmim Alam Tushar confirmed the incident.
