A mobile court on Monday sentenced four men to 45 days of simple imprisonment in Sreemangal for taking yaba tablets, a banned narcotic substance.
Sreemangal Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), and also Executive Magistrate Md Mobashsherul Islam confirmed the matter to the correspondent.
The four men are- Wasim Mia, 25, Junayed Ahmed, 27, Afsar Ahmed, 35, Ataur Rahman, 37. They were detained from Junayed’s home in Lamua village of Kalapur Union around 11pm.
According to sources, a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9) team, led by the executive magistrate conducted an anti-drug raid at Junayed’s home on a tip off.
The four men were caught red handed while taking yaba tablets. The mobile court confiscated the drugs and handed down jail sentences to them.
Speaking to the correspondent, Mobashsherul Islam said: “The men confessed that they have been taking yaba for a long time. They procured the banned drug from a peddler named Eklim Mia at Kalapur Bazar, a local market.”
