A local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League lodged a complaint of sedition on Thursday against a teacher of Chittagong University, who is also an accused in the case over the murder of Chhatra League central leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury.
Asaduzzaman Tanvir, former joint secretary of Fatikchhari upazila chapter of Chhatra League, lodged the complaint against Anwar Hossain Choudhury with the court of Magistrate Abu Salem Md Noman of Metropolitan Court-2.
In the complaint, the Chhatra League leader alleged that the university teacher made derogatory comments on the Liberation War of Bangladesh and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a research article.
The court ordered the OC of Chawk Bazar police station to probe the complaint after taking necessary permission from the home ministry.
The article, titled “Religious Politics and Communal Harmony in Bangladesh: A Recent Impasse,” was recently published in a US journal. Anwar, assistant professor of the sociology department of CU, described the Liberation War of 1971 as a communal clash between the Hindu and Muslim communities in the article.
The article was published in the Global Journal of Human-Social Science: C, Sociology & Culture, Volume 17, Issue, 3, Version 1.0 in 2017. The publisher of the journal is Global Journals Inc of USA.
Anwar, then assistant proctor of CU, was sent to jail after he surrendered before a Chittagong court on December 18, 2017, over the murder case of Chhatra League central leader Diaz Irfan Chowdhury.
Diaz's mother filed the murder case with a Chittagong court against around 20 people, including Anwar, on November 24.
