Four Nigerians detained at border

Four Nigerian men have been detained while entering into Bangladesh through Jaintiapur upazila border of Sylhet. The detainees are- Akachi Linus Anthony, 58, Obi Chisom Ernest, 34, Okafor Wesley Derek, 32, and James Okoh Seth, 31. Jaintiapur Model Police Station Office-in-Charge Khan Md Moinul Zakir said they were detained around Saturday midnight from a check-post that was set up in the upazila’s Assampara area. Of them, only Ashachi was carrying a Nigerian passport. He had no Bangladeshi visa. OC Moinul said: “After getting information from a secret source, the Nigerians were arrested after intruding through Minatila border.”

“The Nigerians can speak their native language only,” he said. “While asking questions to them in a variety of ways, they told the police that they were in India for the last couple of days and entered the Bangladeshi side unknowingly,” he further added. SI Mosharraf of the police station has filed a case as the plaintiff against the men. “On Sunday afternoon, they were sent to jail by the court,” he added.
