Boy marries grandaunt in Chandpur

A 15-year-old boy has married his 32-year old grandaunt after maintaining a relationship for one and half years in Chandpur's Matlab Dakkhin upazila. Locals said the boy, Saiful, son of Sobhan Mia of Gabua village under the upazila's Narayanpur union, got into a physical affair with Selina Begum, wife of Saiful’s father's uncle Sultan Mia after his [Sultan Mia] death in June, 2016. As a result of the relationship, Selina gave birth to a boy on February 5. As soon as the news of the widow giving birth to a child started spreading, the locals demanded justice based on the fatwa of the Imam of the local mosque. Both of their families secretly changed their age through affidavits from the district's Notary Public office. In their affidavits, Saiful and Selina's age were shown as 28 and 24 respectively. Narayanpur Union Parishad Chairman Zahirul Mostofa Talukder said the marriage has been conducted by members of both sides of the families. Saiful's mother Hosneara said: "My husband's aunt is now my daughter-in-law. We are now living happily." Since her marriage with then husband Sultan, Selina Begum has been living in the same house with her child with Sultan, where Saiful also lives.
