RU student abducted by estranged husband from university campus

A female student of Rajshahi University has allegedly been abducted by her former husband from in front of its Taposi Rabeya Hall. The victim is Umme Shahi Ammana Shova, a final-year  undergraduate student of Department of Bangla, who hails from Naogaon's Mahadebpur upazila. The university's Proctor Dr Lutfor Rahman, quoting witnesses, said Shova was shoved into a microbus up by her estranged husband Sohel Rana and three other unidentified men when she came out of the dormitory to sit for an exam. “They got married in December last year. But the duo filed for a divorce just two months ago. Sohel might have masterminded the abduction since he was against the separation,” the RU proctor said. Sohel came to meet Shova in front of the student dormitory on Friday morning when she along with her friend headed towards their exam hall. A heated altercation ensued between the duo as Sohel tried to stop Shova from attending the exam, he said. At one stage, Sohel with the help of his aides picked up her in the microbus he was travelling on, said the RU teacher. The university authorities have already informed the law enforcement agencies about the incident. When contacted, Matihar police station's Officer-in-Charge Mehedi Hasan said the RU authorities have primarily urged them to help find the abductee. Meanwhile, Shova's father Amzad Hossain told reporters that he would file a case in this connection.
