Cox’s Bazar locals play their part to help refugees

People from all walks of life have united to help the Cox's Bazar Rohingya refugees in their time of need. After Jumma prayers on Friday, many local people, organisations, and committees donated to the best of their abilities to refugees who have taken up residence on the roadsides of Teknaf and Ukhiya. At the same time, relief donations have been sent from all over Bangladesh. Hot meals such as biriyani and khichuri, as well as packaged food was delivered to the refugees. Shakila Zerin, the leader of a group of students from Dhaka who went to aid the refugees told the Dhaka Tribune: “We came to Palongkhali to help infants and children. We are trying to deliver as many units of baby food as we possibly can.” “This is our responsibility and we are trying our best to help,” said a resident of Teknaf, who distributed packets of khichuri near the Palongkhali refugee point. Cox's Bazar Assistant Deputy Commissioner Naser Hosain told the Dhaka Tribune that until Friday evening, 900 tonnes worth of relief and Tk35 lakh was dispensed through people, government and non-government organisations. Naser added that even though there is a lack of manpower, people interested in aiding the refugees should volunteer to do so.
