Four people including the wife of a dead Chittagong judge were placed on five-day remand yesterday under suspicion of their involvement in the judge’s murder.
Additional District Session Judge Kazi Abdul Hasib Mohammad Sayeed of Naogaon district is believed to have been murdered by his wife and in-laws, according to the police.
The remanded accused are the victim’s wife Sanjida Ahmed Mishu, 19, mother-in-law Laki Akhter, 38, brother-in-law Imran Hossain, 21, and the domestic help at his in-law’s residence Rima, 15, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Oliullah of Halishahar police station.
SI Oliullah is the investigating officer (IO) of the case.
The court of the Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate, Nowrin Akhter Kakon, passed the remand order while police pleaded for 10-day remand, according to court sources.
Halishahar police station SI Mukul Mia yesterday lodged a murder case accusing Sanjida, Laki, Imran, Rima, father-in-law Nasir Ahmed, who is absconding, and unidentified persons in connection with the murder of the judge at his in-laws’ residence in the Mollapara area of the city on Tuesday.
On Tuesday evening, Sanjida brought Sayeed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in an unconscious state where the on-duty doctors pronounced him dead.
Sanjida told CMCH police outpost personnel that her husband had locked himself inside a bedroom and hanged himself.
But police discovered a bruise on the victim’s head according to the inquest report, the IO said.
Police arrested the judge’s wife, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and his in-law’s domestic help as murder suspects and produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Tanvir Arafat of Chittagong Metropolitan Police West Zone said police had not yet found a motive for the murder.
