Chittagong Metropolitan Police are all set to conduct special drive against illegal sale and use of lawmen’s uniforms and equipment.
The Police Headquarters on June 5 issued a letter signed by Assistant Inspector General (Logistic) Mohammad Sarwar to all law enforcement agencies in a bid to alert them to the robbery, mugging and other offences committed by the outlaws in the guise of lawmen.
The letter said a three-member committee was formed for every metropolitan city and divisional city across the country to carry out the drive against illegal sale and use of lawmen’s tools.
The metropolitan and divisional city committees must submit monthly report within 15th of every month to the seven-member committee led by the deputy inspector general (Finance and Development) in Police Headquarters, according to the letter.
To monitor the task in the port city, Chittagong Metropolitan Police on June 10 formed another three-member committee led by CMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operation) Banaz Kumar Majumder.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Babul Akhter of Detective Branch of CMP and Assistant Commissioner Kazi Nazrul Islam of City Special Branch of CMP were also on board.
The inspection committee will launch drive in markets and shops in every area of the city and take legislative actions against the sellers and users of law enforcement agencies’ tools.
CMP Additional Commissioner (crime and operation) Banaz Kumar Majumder told the Dhaka Tribune they had already started operation to rein in abduction, mugging, robbery and other forms of crimes committed in the guise of lawmen.
