A Chittagong court yesterday recorded a deposition given by the first witness in an ACC case against Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury, the nayeb-e-ameer of Hefazat-e-Islam.
Senior Special Judge SM Majibur Rahman recorded the deposition by plaintiff Sirajul Hoque, a deputy director of the ACC, on the first day of the trial. The court fixed June 25 for depositions by other witnesses.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case against Izhar on August 17 last year as the accused had not submitted his wealth statement in response to ACC notice. The charge sheet was pressed on April 21 while the court indicted Izhar on May 12.
