Pro-BNP lawyers announce court boycott

Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, the pro-BNP lawyers' forum, have called for a nationwide court proceedings boycott for Sunday.

They called for the boycott in protest against the detention of 15 lawyers and foiling their proposed rally at the Supreme Court premises on Saturday morning.

The forum members will observe boycott from 10:30am to 1pm on Sunday, announced Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, president of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum.

Rafiqul Islam also announced a set of programmes during a rally at the National Press Club on Saturday afternoon.

The pro-BNP lawyers will stage demonstrations in court premises across the country on Monday. They will also form human chains in all the Bar Associations throughout the country on Tuesday.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the lawyers will hold black flag processions in the Bar Associations.

Earlier in the day, 15 lawyers were detained from the Supreme Court premises ahead of a pro-BNP programme.

Police cordoned off the Supreme Court premises and tore down the stage to stop the rally organised by Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum. The rally was later shifted to the National Press Club.
