Charge framed against Oishee’s housemaid Sumi

A juvenile court in Dhaka yesterday framed charges against housemaid Khadiza Khatun Sumi in a case filed over the murder of Special Branch (SB) of police Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Shapna Rahman.

Dhaka First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mosammat Zakia Parveen passed the order while the defence counsel filed two separate petitions.

Defence counsel Syed Nazmul Huda pleaded with the court to acquit Sumi from the charge.

However, the court denied the plea and granted her bail. The court set the next hearing on June 16 for the prosecution witnesses.

The accused pleaded not guilty and prayed for justice.

The defence counsel said: “Sumi is 15 and her parents were not present in the court. So, Sumi will be freed from the National Juvenal Correction Centre at Gazipur after her parents submit her bail bond on May 26.”

Earlier on May 6, Dhaka Metropolitan Session’s Judge Court framed charges against Oishee Rahman and two of her friends, Mizanur Rahman Rony and Mahfuzur Rahman Jony.

On August 14 last year, SB Police Inspector Mahfuzur and his wife Shapna were stabbed to death on their rented flat in Chamelibagh, Malibagh. Police recovered their bodies on August 16.

Oishee, 19, with housemaid Sumi, surrendered at Paltan police station on August 17.

Later, Oishee in a statement confessed to have killed her parents with the help of her housemaid Sumi.

On March 9, DB Inspector Abu Al Khair Matubbar, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted two charge sheets – one against Oishee, her friends Rony, and Jony and the other against housemaid Sumi – to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

The murder case was filed by Mahfuz’s brother Moshiur Rahman with the Paltan police station against some unnamed people. L
