Charges framed against Oishee

A Dhaka court yesterday framed charges against Oishee Rahman and two others in the case filed in connection with the murder of her parents, police inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Shapna Rahman.

The other two accused are Oishee’s friends Rony, 25, and Jony, 27.

Yesterday, defence counsel Prokash Ranjan Biswas sought bail for Oishee but Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jahurul Haque rejected the plea and set June 5 for prosecution witnesses to testify.  This is the fifth time Oishee has been denied bail.

A total of 57 people have been mentioned as witnesses in the charge sheet.

The court did not frame charges against another accused Khadiza Khatun Sumi, 15, Oishee’s housemaid. Instead, Sumi’s documents were transferred to the First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Jakia Parveen’s court. It would serve as a juvenile court and frame charges against her on May 20.

All the four accused were present before the court yesterday. On August 24, Oishee and Sumi gave confessional statements.

Oishee’s counsel alleged that the investigation officer had placed the charge sheet without proper investigation and that the court had not allowed hearing on discharge petition.

Additional public prosecutor Shah Alam Talukder sought time but the court framed charge against the accused.

On March 9, investigation officer Abu Al Khair Matubbar submitted two charge sheets in the case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.

According to the charge sheets, Oishee is the lone accused for killing her parents, while Jony and Rony were charged for instigating and giving her shelter. Sumi was accused because she assisted Oishee in hiding the dead bodies.

The charge sheets also said before killing the couple on the night of August 14, 2013, Oishee fed her parents sedative tablets with coffee. One of the charge sheets said: “Two months before the murder, Oishee wanted to go to Dubai with her boyfriend Jony. She also demanded Tk30,000 from her father. But her father Mahfuzur did not let her go.

“About a month before the killings, Oishee lived with her boyfriend Jony in a rented house at Rampura for 15 days. That was when she planned to kill her parents.” After she came back to her Chamelibagh residence 15 days before the murder, her parents grounded her, restricted her movement and seized her cell phone, the charge sheet said.

On August 16, 2013, the bodies of the couple were recovered from their Chamelibagh residence. Twenty-two hours later, Oishee turned up at the Paltan police station. Later, detectives arrested Rony, his brother Jony and Sumi.

The case was filed by Mahfuz’s brother Moshiur Rahman with Paltan police station against some unnamed people.
