Microbiological contamination from consumption of rotten watermelons was the cause of death of two children in Kushtia and Manikganj, officials say.
The probe report on the deaths was revealed at a press conference of the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Monday.
IECDR Director Professor Mahmudur Rahman said the watermelons were tested in the National Food Testing Laboratory in Dhaka.
“No formalin or artificial dye were found in those watermelons. Those watermelons were rotten. Possible reason of death is microbiological contamination.”
The official assured that it was not harmful to consume the watermelons available at the market.
