Nasim: Vested quarter behind medical unrest

A vested quarter is under efforts to destabilise the health sector of the country and trouble the government, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim has said.

“They have failed in hatching conspiracies in other sectors and are now eying the health sector,” he said in a meeting with a doctors' association on Sunday.

“They are trying to instigate the relatives of the patients, doctors and journalists and create anarchy.”

“People here believe in the doctors, they are naturally upset with a death,” he added. “Doctors have to live up to their expectations. They have to remain alert in this regard.”

At the meeting with Swachip (Swadheenata Chikitsak Parishad) leaders, he said everyone has to be active to implement the goals set by the prime minister.

Two laws on the way for doctors, patients

Two separate laws are on the way for the protection of doctors and the patients, the minister said. “The government has taken the initiative in this regard.”

The government has also taken an initiative to strengthen the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), he added, according to a handout of the information ministry.

State minister for health Zahed Malek echoed the minister at the meeting and said doctors “must remain alert against a vested quarter that is working against the government.”

Swachip President AFM Ruhul Haque, director general of the department of health Dr Din Md Nurul Haque, Awami League health secretary Badiuzzaman Bhuiya were present among others.
