BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is in a stable condition after contracting Covid-19, says Dr FM Siddiqui, who is heading the team of doctors treating the former prime minister.
“Her (Kaleda Zia) physical condition is good. She’s doing fine. There have been no complications, so far,” he told the media at Khaleda’s Gulshan residence following a checkup.
The former prime minister will undergo health checkups every 48 hours, he said before adding: “It has been decided that she would continue receiving treatment at home for now. But, we are prepared to hospitalize her if needed.”
Khaleda sought everyone’s blessing for her recovery, said Dr Siddiqui.
The BNP on Sunday said its chairperson’s condition is completely stable with no symptoms of Covid-19, though she has tested positive for the virus.
At a media call, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said she was undergoing treatment under the supervision of her personal physicians, led by Dr Siddiqui.
Her sample was sent to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) on Saturday and the test result came back on Sunday, he said.
Mirza Fakhrul’s confirmation came after her family and senior leaders said they were unaware of the test report.
The report from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) emerged on social media on Sunday morning. A health ministry spokesperson later confirmed its authenticity.
