Bangladesh has logged 22 deaths and 692 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning.
With the new cases, the total number of cases surged to 521,382 according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday.
With the 22 who people died from the disease in the same period, taking the overall tally to 7,756.
Of the total samples tested, 3.36% tested positive, whereas 15.59% cases were detected from the total tests conducted so far, added the release.
Deceased
Among the total infections, 89.39% patients have recovered, while 1.49% died since Bangladesh detected its first three Covid-19 positive cases on March 8.
Of the 22 victims, 15 of whom were male, 21 of them died in the hospital and one at home.
Of the total deceased 17 were aged above 60, three were above fifty, and two were above 40, said the press release.
The division-wise data shows that 17 deaths took place in Dhaka division, two each in Chittagong and Rajshahi and in Mymensingh
Among the total 7,756 deaths, 4,279 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 1,430 in Chittagong division, 447 in Rajshahi division, 539 in Khulna division, 239 in Barisal division, 294 in Sylhet division, 350 in Rangpur division, and 178 in Mymensingh division.
Recovery
The recovery count rose to 466,064 after another 785 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period.
A total of 12,523 samples were tested at 181 authorized laboratories across the country during the time.
A total of 3,344,399 samples have so far been tested since the detection of the first Covid-19 cases in the country.
The DGHS said in order to make treatment facilities easily available for the Covid-19 patients, the government has introduced round-the-clock telemedicine services, comprising 100 physicians, in the country.
The DGHS said 23,342,812 people received healthcare services from hotline mobile numbers and health web portals as the government formed a group of medical professionals to provide emergency healthcare services.

Global situation
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 1,923,905 lives and infected 89,439,893 people across the world till Saturday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
As many as 64,099,179 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 218 countries and territories across the planet.
