Bangladesh urges KSA to form OIC Covid-19 response, recovery fund

Foreign Minister Dr A. K. Abdul Momen on Wednesday sought the support of Saudi Arabia to create a voluntary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Covid-19 response and recovery fund for member countries.

Dr Momen sought such support when Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud called him, said a Foreign Ministry press release on Thursday.

The Bangladesh foreign minister also requested Prince Faisal to employ Bangladeshi workers in the agriculture sector of his country.

He requested the Saudi public and private sectors to invest in Bangladesh’s livestock sector to process beef and chicken. 

Moreover, the foreign minister requested his Saudi counterpart to import halal beef and chicken from Bangladesh. 

Besides, Dr Momen apprised Prince Faisal about Bangladesh’s capacity to produce good quality PPEs and expressed Dhaka’s capacity to export them.

He also sought Saudi support in repatriating 1.1 million Rohingyas who have been forcibly displaced from Myanmar to Bangladesh. 

During the phone call, the Saudi foreign minister enquired about the coronavirus situation in Bangladesh. 

Dr. Momen briefed Prince Faisal about the current Covid-19 situation in Bangladesh, added the release.
