Bangladesh on Tuesday again saw the single-day Covid-19 test positivity rate jump to 23%, from Monday’s 22.47%.
The rate had reached an all-time high on June 18, with 23.39% of the total number of samples tested in 24 hours coming back positive.
During the daily Covid-19 bulletin on Tuesday afternoon, the health services directorate’s Additional Director General Prof Nasima Sultana said 13,491 samples were collected from suspected patients around the country between Monday and Tuesday mornings.
During the same time span, she said, as many as 13,137 samples were tested at 74 authorized labs across the country.
With 3,027 of the tests coming back positive, the detection rate of new patients during those 24 hours stood at 23%, Prof Nasima said.
Until Tuesday morning, 873,480 tests were conducted around the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 19.31%.
The country’s Covid-19 death toll climbed to 2,151 on Tuesday, as 55 more people died from the deadly disease between Monday and Tuesday mornings.
This was the third time the daily death toll crossed 50 since the country’s first Covid-19 cases were detected on March 8.
Furthermore, the 3,027 new cases took the total number of confirmed cases to 168,645.
Prof Nasima also said that 1,953 had people recovered from the disease since Monday morning, taking the total number recovered patients to 78,102 — which is 46.31% of all infected.
On Sunday, the single-day test positivity rate had taken a dip — 19.57% — after several weeks of being steady at around 20%.
