Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua on Wednesday said the kits developed by Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GSK) were not effective enough to detect coronavirus infections.
Dr Kanak, in a press conference at Miltan Hall of BSMMU, said the GSK kits could not identify Covid-19 infections consistently, reports BSS.
He said only 11% of patients could get accurate results of coronavirus using GSK kits if they are tested within one week of developing symptoms, while 40% patients could get accurate results of the virus within two weeks of their symptoms.
The detection result was 70% successful on those who tested three weeks after their symptoms emerged, he added.
BSMMU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (education) Dr Sahana Akhtar Rahman, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Rafiqul Alam and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (research and development), among others, were present at the briefing.
