Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, the Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK) founder, has attended former minister Mohammed Nasim’s namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) held on Sunday, soon after recovering from coronavirus infection.
GK's official Facebook page published an update on Zafrullah’s condition on Sunday saying he was found to be Covid-19 negative on Saturday after being tested with the antigen testing kit developed by GK.
Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College Vice-Principal Dr Muhibullah Khandaker said: “Dr Zafrullah wanted to attend Mohammed Nasim’s namaz-e-janaza as soon as he found out he was Covid-19 negative.”
“He said he had a cordial relationship with Nasim and wanted to go to the funeral prayer even if he died after going there,” Dr Muhibullah mentioned.
There were no traces of coronavirus found in his body, meaning that he had completely recovered from Covid-19, said GK’s social media post.
Quoting Dr Muhibullah, coordinator of the GR Covid-19 Dot Blot Project, the post said, Zafrullah is currently suffering from pneumonia.
“He is breathing normally and maintaining 95% oxygen saturation without taking oxygen support,” the post added.
According to doctors, even though the GK founder has recovered from Covid-19, he will have to stay hospitalized due to other health complications.
Zafrullah, a freedom fighter, underwent coronavirus testing with the kit developed by GK, which found him to be Covid-19 positive on May 25.
Four days later, an RT-PCR test at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University also found him positive for Covid-19.
He was given plasma therapy thrice to help strengthen his immune system in bid to beat the deadly virus.
