Deputy tax commissioner dies from Covid-19

A deputy tax commissioner has died from Covid-19 infection at the capital.

The deceased, Sudhangshu Kumar Saha, breathed his last at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Monday night. 

Saha, a member of the 27th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) was undergoing treatment in an ICU of the hospital, said a press release issued by the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

Meanwhile, his wife, seven-year-old daughter and house-help have also been infected by the deadly virus.  

The senior tax official was found to be Covid-10 positive on May 31.

He was then admitted to the hospital due to breathing difficulties, fever and was provided with oxygen support.

As of Tuesday, Bangladesh had a confirmed 71,675 coronavirus cases, with the death toll rising to 975 after a record 45 new fatalities were reported.

Till now the fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 409,000 lives and infected more than 7,222,000 people globally, according to worldometer.

As many as 3,557,000 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the world.
