Four Covid-19 dedicated hospitals in the capital have received a total of 28,000 sets of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) jointly with the Swiss Red Cross Bangladesh Country Office and in association with Novartis Bangladesh office.
The health safety equipment were handed over at the training room of the headquarters of the BDRCS in the capital on Wednesday, according to a press release.
The four hospitals which received the PPE, worth Tk2.27 crore, are Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital, Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and Kurmitola General Hospital.
The government has officially started the operations of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital as a Covid-19 dedicated hospital, said the press release.
BDRCS Vice Chairman and IFRC Governing Board member Dr Habibe Millat, MP, was present at the PPE handover ceremony as the chief guest and handed over the PPE to the directors of the four hospitals.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Millat said the BDRCS had been extending all-out support to the government to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
Amitabh Sharma, Bangladesh Country Representative of the Swiss Red Cross, said the Swiss Red Cross was delighted to have become a partner in rendering services to frontline workers like doctors, nurses and health workers.
The BDRCS is jointly working with the government to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
This initiative of the BDRCS is in line with the various initiatives taken to ensure protection of the health of health workers, including doctors on duty at Covid-19 dedicated hospital in the capital, the statement reads.
Among others, BDRCS Secretary General M Firoz Salahuddin, Deputy Secretary General M Rafiqul Islam, Swiss Red Cross Bangladesh Country Representative Amitabh Sharma, Kurmitola General Hospital Director Brigadier General Jamil Ahmed, Dhaka Medical College Hospital Director Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin and Kuwait Moitree Hospital Director Dr Sarwar ul Alam were present.
